As part of one of my food outings in Manchester, my friend was excited to take me to Red’s True Barbeque Restaurant.
Reds has replaced a very famous seafood restaurant in a gorgeous building on the edge of the town hall square. I was interested to see if it lived up to the huge hype.
Upon walking in, you are hit with the aroma of BBQ food, so this is not one for non-meat lovers! At 7.30pm on a Sunday, we still had a 45 minute wait. Red’s don’t take bookings on weekends. You have been warned.
Once we were shown to our seats, we got to ordering, and well, I probably ordered the unhealthiest thing on the very varied menu (which also tells you which drink to match your meal with – always a plus for the indecisive).
Behold my choice, the donut burger:
This is a double bacon cheeseburger, served between TWO glazed donuts. It’s really quite something. It probably doesn’t sound great, but the sugar on the donut counteracts the bacon and gives off an almost similar taste to having pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon. Delicious.
More importantly, the burgers were GORGEOUS, perfectly cooked and the side dishes of hush puppies and fries were also ideal, and a great size.
My friend ordered some actual real beef, and a side of sweet potato fries. She ate the whole thing, so that is testament to how good it is (and she is Spanish, so good meat is in her blood).
The atmosphere was also great and the staff were lovely. All in all a great experience. If you’re in Manchester and in a rush, it’s probably not the place for you, but if you have a spare few hours, and want some tasty food you can take your time over, then Red’s is for you.
P.S It’s BETTER than Bodeans (shhh).
